Competitive Generation SolicitationsThe ERA oversees competitive solicitations for firm generating capacity on Grand Cayman as outlined in Part IV of the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Licence granted to Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) on April 3, 2008. A competitive solicitation for two increments of firm capacity totaling approximately 36 megawatts (MW) commenced at the start of 2012. The ERA is undertaking a rigorous process of reaching out to potential bidders and establishing a qualified bidders list. Once a qualified bidders list is established, the ERA will issue the RFP to those bidders; evaluate their proposals; and select a winning bidder. Qualified companies interested in competing in the competitive solicitation should contact the ERA.
In August 2011, CUC invited interested parties to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) and preliminary proposals for financing, construction, ownership and operation of renewable energy generation facilities on Grand Cayman. CUC expressed an intention to accept up to 13 MW of grid-connected renewable energy generators. The submittal deadline for expressions of interest was October 31, 2011. |
