Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC)

In May 1966, CUC commenced operations as the only electrical utility on Grand Cayman.  CUC has a non-exclusive Generation Licence for Grand Cayman that will expire in September 2029 and is currently the only firm generator of electricity with a total combined generating capacity of 146.54 megawatts (MW).  CUC is also the exclusive Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Licensee for Grand Cayman.  The CUC T&D Licence has a twenty year term.  The CUC T&D System is comprised of 8 major transformer substations, approximately 302 miles of 69 kilovolt (kV) and 13 kV high-voltage overhead lines and 14 miles of 13 kV high-voltage submarine cable.  All T&D infrastructure is designed for high winds and flooding that might result from a hurricane.
